S'Morkies?

Whatever they are called, they sound delish!

Saratoga Mama contributor Amy has a little recipe to share with us! S'mores are great in the summer and even a late summer like we appear to be having. But soon it will get cold, and those campfires nights will be a distant memory. That's okay- you can make S'Morkies!

Chocolate Cake S’mores Cookies

1 box devil’s food cake mix

2 eggs

1/4 Cup brown sugar

1/2 Cup melted butter (1 stick)

3 Hershey’s Chocolate bars, cut into rectangles

1 1/2 Cups mini marshmallows

1 1/2 Cups graham crackers, cut up into small pieces

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl mix the cake mix, eggs, brown sugar and butter until combined. With a medium cookie scoop, scoop dough onto a silpat or parchment lined baking sheet. Press cookies into little discs to flatten slightly. On each cookie press a chocolate bar, a couple marshmallows and a couple graham cracker pieces. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until cooked through.

2. Remove and let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Serve with milk and enjoy!

ASK ABOUT THE TOKEN...

From one of our SaratogaMama's doing a little "Back to Fall" shopping for HERSELF!

Okay Ladies, so I know as a mom we like to be in comfy clothes, a la Gap or Old Navy or really step it up and hit Banana Republic, but you should really check out Aggie's on Broadway for some super fun, comfy new fall clothes.

I happened to stop by the other day in search of a dress for the 3 weddings I need to attend this fall. I found one and I found sweaters, jeans, leggings, even undies! I just cleaned out my closets and the last time I bought something for myself, it was a Nursing shirt, so I figured why not pick up some classics that I can have for a really long time.

I opted for 2 sweaters with short sleeves so I wouldn't get too much baby food on them and a great pair of cargo leggings. I got to the register and cringed at the total but then I said " Do you take Saratoga Mama?" Beth, the manager at the store said yes! I was the first person to ask in the 2 years that she has had it!

I was the first person to ask in the 2 years that she has accepted it! I saved 10% on my total and felt a little better about my purchase. So, get out there and shop ladies, and don't forget to ask if someone takes the SM Token, your wallet will thank you!

Story Time

Last week we had a mama meet up at toddler story time at the lovely Malta Library. The library is in the newly renovated Malta Community Center at 1 Bayberry dr. The children's section is very cute with many puzzles and great books.

Toddler story time was a hit and like everything at the Malta community center, was well worth the trip! The librarian even had a small craft to do for the children that tied into the books subject matter- Butterflies!

Kindermusik ROCKS!

According to my two year old, Andrew that pretty much sums it up - Kindermusik rocks! Not in a rock and roll sort of way, but it's one of the few things that Andrew begs for when we aren't there (like going to Grammie's house or asking for ice cream every time we pass by Stewart's).

In our 45 minute "Our Time" class, Ms. Renee leads the group of toddlers and their mamas (sometimes dads and other caregivers too!) through song and dance.

Andrew loves circle time, sitting in my lap and bouncing, clapping or improvising to the great songs that become more familiar each week. The little stinker is getting good too – just the other day I tried singing a Kindermusik song in play at home and he stopped me – “Mommy, that is Ms. Renee’s song!”

He can be a timid fellow but the class is flexible – sometimes he gets right into it and dances and stomps around with the gang and other times he prefers to step back and observe the others. I’m just happy that either way he is comfortable there absorbing and enjoying the music and movement.

Each week we get to try out a variety of “instruments” like sandpaper blocks, egg shakers and wooden sticks. The instruments are wonderfully accessible for kids this age. It’s fun to watch what they choose to do and how well the little ones pick up the rhythm of the songs.

We love our music class and look forward to it each week!

We are also excited to announce that Ms. Renee is now accepting the SM Token for a discount on Kindermusik tuition at the Hostetler Music Studio! Learn more about Kindermusik with Ms. Renee here.
